Your Web Host runs on a computer in a data center that most likely runs either Windows or unix - two types of operating systems. We have a strong bias toward the unix operating system since it was developed to manage large, complex computer systems. We consider it an *industrial strength* O/S, and it has historically performed much better than other operating systems - it tends to crash much less often, and run longer between crashes.

The two most important reasons for our unix preference are: 1) The SQL database at the core of our Cloud Solutions was first designed to run on unix systems. 2) Perl - the programming language we use as our "Server Side Software" - was written by Larry Wall, the same brilliant man who wrote large parts of the unix operating system itself.
